In the Sundarbans delta, fishing families have watched the shoreline creep closer to their homes for two decades.

“My grandfather's house was two kilometres from the water. Mine is on the water.”

Saltwater intrusion has damaged farmland once used for rice, pushing more households to rely entirely on fishing — even as fish stocks shift further offshore.

Local cooperatives are now piloting floating vegetable gardens and salt-tolerant crop varieties as a way to diversify income without leaving the region entirely.
